PostSubject: Werewolf: The curse of the Lycaeon.   Tue Sep 18, 2012 1:23 pm

Werewolf in brief, referring to humans whom possess ability to shape-shift into fearsome beast during the full moon, which bring terror to many people. There are many ways for someone to become a werewolf. Based on the legends, it is believed a person will turned into a werewolf through curses, being the seventh son, practicing black magic, or simply being bitten by ones. Unlike vampires whom drinks blood, werewolves feed on flesh and normally the person will lose his awareness during the transformations and his actions aftermath were derived by the instinct of a beast.

One of the famous yet earliest legends of the werewolf origin came from the Greek, a story of the King Lycaeon, the wicked ruler of the Arcadia Kingdom whom loves consuming the human’s flesh (cannibals). One day, he being informed the gods will pay him a visit. Upon the arrivals of the gods in the form of humans, Lycaeon served them with hundreds of dishes in honor to their visit.

Among the countless dishes, there was one was made from human’s flesh, which Lycaoen served it on purpose to test whether the men is the real gods or imposers. The test turned out to be the biggest mistakes Lycaeon ever done. The gods discovered the tainted dish and punished Lycaeon severely by turning him into a werewolf for the rest of his life, a form that suite his cannibalism.

Lycaeon, however were allowed to kept his sanity as a human, so he will always remembers it as the lessons for his vile actions. Although being turned into a werewolf and roaming across the land and prey on the innocence, Lycaeon had been remembered and worshipped till today where every year, the priests will prepared a sacrificial feast mixed with humans part and presented it to Lycaeon at the Lycaeus Mountains.

It is believed whoever tasted the sacrificial dishes that presented to the Lycaeon king will be cursed by becoming a werewolf. The person unable to turn back into normal self unless he able to restrain himself from feed on humans flesh for 9 years.

What about modern day cannibals from around the world... individuals who claim to do it for pleasure while others do it during tribal (usually sacrificial) rituals in Africa, for example.

Do you think that they have also received this curse in some particular way without obviously having shape shifted into beasts?

lolz.I don't think so. The cannibalistic behavior can be caused by genetic problems or cultural practices, which means these people not being cursed or a werewolf. there are few ways to know if person a real werewolf or not, and I read that shape shifting is the one of the crucial signs/symptoms.
